Coming into 2022, Warner Bros. Interactive seemingly had a clear—if ambitious—plan. It would have four major releases, perhaps punch above its weight, in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, Gotham Knights, and Hogwarts Legacy. Prior to the recent State of Play presentation on the latter, a lot was known aboutLEGO Star Warsbecause it had been delayed, and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League had been at a few showcases.
Indeed, comparing the marketing between Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and Gotham Knights, it seemed certain that the former was more likely to release this year. With four major releases, it seems like a delay was on the table for one game. The two that seemed the most likely to be delayed, at least around the marketing if not the leaks and messaging, were Gotham Knights and Hogwarts Legacy. That has been thrown out the window, at least for now.
Gotham Knights Still Has a Lot of Gameplay and Villains to Show
In February, it was reported that Suicide Squad was being delayed into 2023. Warner Bros. Interactive didn’t and still hasn’t commented on this, but at the time, it made many worried about Gotham Knights. But when Gotham Knights got a release date, Suicide Squad was silent and the buzz around the game was silent.
Of the four games, the only game that was and still seems hard set in its current release date is LEGO Star Wars. Hogwarts Legacy recently confirmed a release window of Holiday 2022, while Gotham Knights is set for an October release. Neither are exempt from potential delays, but having a time frame out there for games that haven’t been shown much is at least a good sign that more will come.
