Jurassic World: Dominionstar DeWanda Wise clarifies her exit from Marvel's Captain Marvel. Wise plays pilot Kayla Watts in the threequel, starring alongside MCU Starlord Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. Sam Neill, who played Alan in the original Jurassic Park series, will also reprise his role. The film is directed by Colin Trevorrow, who directed the first installment of the Chris Pratt Jurassic trilogy, Jurassic World(2015).
Before Jurassic World: Dominion, Wise was most known for her role in the Spike Lee Netflix TV series She's Gotta Have It. Before that, she mostly acted in film shorts and one-off TV roles, before also having roles in the Netflix films Someone Great and Fatherhood. Wise was initially slated to star alongside Brie Larson and Jude Law in Captain Marvel, making her first entry into the MCU as Maria Rambeau, Carol's friend and former Air Force pilot. However, she had to exit the role when the actress had schedule conflicts with She's Gotta Have It. Lashana Lynch took on the role of Maria Rambeau in her stead.

Wise now explains her leave from Captain Marvelin a new video from Gizmodo. Instead of Captain Marvel, Jurassic World: Dominion will now be Wise's first big blockbuster role. The would-be-Captain Marvel star clarified that she did not chooseto leave her role in Captain Marvel. Instead, her contractual obligation to Lee's Netflix TV show She's Gotta Have It prevented her from taking the part.
