Jeff Goldblum attempts to justify his famous Jurassic Park shirtless scene in an interview with Jimmy Fallon. Goldblum and Jurassic Park co-stars Sam Neill and Laura Dern are back in dinosaur country for this summer’s Jurassic World: Dominion. The trilogy-capping film marks the first time the trio has gotten back together since 1993’s original Steven Spielberg-directed dino-thriller.
Of course there have been four other Jurassic Park/World films in between that first movie and Dominion, bringing the franchise’s total to six. Indeed there have been a lot of memorable moments of dinosaur-related carnage across that entire long-running series. But arguably the most famous moment in the Jurassic Park/World run involves not CGI dinosaurs on the rampage but a simple low-tech shot of a man lying back with his shirt unbuttoned to expose his chest. That man of course is Goldblum's Ian Malcolm, and the shot of him shirtless in Jurassic Park has in the internet age gone on to become one of the most beloved of all memes. Indeed the famed shirtless moment has inspired not only memes but actual toys, and there was also once a giant shirtless Goldblum statue gracing London.

Goldblum for his part seems to have embraced his meme-fame as the briefly shirtless Ian Malcolm. Appearing recently on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Goldblum discussed the famed scene, illustrated for the audience using a Jurassic Park shirtless Ian Malcolm toy, and attempted to explain why he felt the necessity to remove his shirt in the first place.
