A release date has been announced.
In 2017, Dwayne Johnson starred alongside Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which was directed by Jake Kasdan. A sequel, which was also directed by Kasdan, titled Jumanji: The Next Level then arrived in 2019.
In March 2020, Kasdan confirmed there were plans to make a third Jumanji movie. Now, per Deadline, Jumanji 3 has been given an official release date.
Jumanji 3 will be released in United States theaters on December 11, 2026, from Sony Pictures. Kasdan, Johnson, Hart, Black, and Gillan are all expected to return for the movie.
Plot details remain under wraps at this time. It’s not immediately clear if the real-world teenage versions of the characters played by Johnson, Black, Hart, and Gillan — played in the previous two movies by Alex Wolff, Ser’Darious Blain, Madison Iseman, and Morgan Turner — will also reprise their roles.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle technically serves as a sequel to 195’s Jumanji, which was based on the 1981 children’s picture book of the same name by Chirs Van Allsburg. That movie starred Robin Williams, David Alan Grier, Kirsten Dunst, and Bonnie Hunt. A spin-off, Zathura: A Space Adventure, directed by Jon Favreau then came in 2005.
Jumanji has been a major box-office hit for Sony. The 2017 movie made over $950 million at the global box office, while the sequel brought in an impressive $801.7 million.
Prior to Jumanji 3, Kasdan and Johnson have reteamed for Red One, which will be released in United States theaters on November 15, 2024. The Christmas adventure movie co-stars Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, and J. K. Simmons.
The 1995 Jumanji movie and Zathura: A Space Adventure are both currently streaming on Netflix, while Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level are available to watch on Hulu.
