The advent of the Fantastic Four into the MCU has hit an unforeseen roadblock as Jon Watts has stepped down as the director of the movie. Jon Watts worked with Marvel for seven years, where he directed the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland and Zendaya. His most recent project, Spider-Man: No Way Home, is now the sixth highest-grossing movie of all time. However, after giving us some of the best moments in the MCU, Jon has decided that he wants to take a break.
As reported by Deadline, Jon Watts mentioned what a "life-changing experience" it was for him to be the director for the Spider-Man movies. He also mentioned that he is quite excited to see how the Fantastic Four are brought into the MCU. However, he did not completely rule out a directorial return as he mentioned that he would love to work with Marvel again in the future.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito also confirmed that they are looking forward to working with Jon again in the future. They also wished him well for the future and said “Collaborating with Jon on the Spider-Man films has been a true pleasure. We were looking forward to continuing our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU but understand and are supportive of his reasons for stepping away”.
The movie itself wasn’t announced very exclusively but was rather dropped as a hint in an MCU teaser back in May 2021.
