Co-creator/star Johnny Knoxville expresses he doesn't know if he can stay out of participating in the stunts of a potential Jackass 5. Knoxville developed the the original stunt comedy show with director/producer Jeff Tremaine and future Oscar winner Spike Jonze in the late '90s, teaming up with future cast members Jason «Wee Man» Acuña, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn and Brandon DiCamillo for a demo reel to pitch around to various studios. After a bidding war between Comedy Central and MTV, the latter would acquire the rights to Jackass, where the show would originally run for three seasons before coming to a close due to the group's dissatisfaction with the increasing creative restriction by the network.
The group would ultimately reunite for Jackass: The Movie to conclude the property before moving on to other ventures, including Pontius and Steve-O's Wildboyz and Margera's Viva La Bam, but after Knoxville reunited with the former for its final season, Tremaine convinced the star to bring everybody back together for a second movie. After taking a few years off for various cast's personal and professional reasons, the franchise would return for Jackass 3D in 2010, which would become the best-received and highest-grossing installment, bringing in over $171 million against its $20 million budget. The group are gearing up for their latest adventure, Jackass Forever, in theaters next month and despite its seemingly concluding the franchise, it may not be the end after all.
