Joe Manganiello's basement is a haven for Dungeons & Dragons players. Created in the 1970s by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy role-playing tabletop game. D&D used to be considered something that only the nerdiest teenagers would dare play, but over the decades, the game has both fostered and championed creativity in its players. The focus on worldbuilding and collaborative storytelling has also tended to forge strong friendships among players too.
Dungeons & Dragons seems to be at something of an all-time high in terms of popularity and respectability — which is a long way from the «Satanic Panic» that befell the game during the '80s. The many references to Dungeons & Dragons in Stranger Things has likely aided its public reappraisal, with creatures like the Mind Flayer and Vecna being named from the game itself. After a few terrible movies based on the tabletop RPG were produced in the 2000s, the franchise will get a high-profile reboot in the form of 2023's Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. This will star Chris Pine, Regé-Jean Page and Sophia Lillis.
