The biggest shark franchise around will finally complete its 4K journey when join the party this summer.
With the original Jaws getting the 4K treatment back in June 2020, and the sequel joining it last year, the collection can finally be complete.
The Jaws 3 and Jaws: The Revenge 4K UHD release date is set for July 23, 2024. A box set of all three sequels in 4K will also be available.
This is very much a completionists thing as it’s hard to think of a franchise quality drop off quite as profound as these two. That’s partly understandable given Jaws is a stone cold clasic and a benchmark in blockbuster cinema, and there is some schlocky charm to them.
Jaws 3, or Jaws 3-D, was released in 1983 and as the second title implies, it was neck deep in 3D gimmickery that ultimately hurt the film. The story sees Mike Brody (Dennis Quaid) following in his father’s footseps by getting caught up in another giant shark mishap. This time at Sea World. Ropey FX work has not helped it grow old gracefully.
Jaws: The Revenge is one of the most notorious sequels of all time. Its ridiculous plot and roaring shark alone do it no favors. Michael Caine’s legendary dismissal of the film as nothing more than a paycheck is probably the best thing to come out of it.
