Actor Jason Momoa is reportedly in final negotiations to join the Fast & Furious family, potentially as a villain in the upcoming 10th installment of the franchise. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report on the development.
Neither Universal Pictures nor Momoa has provided a comment on the discussions. What has been much more widely documented, of course, is producer and star Vin Diesel's request that Dwayne «The Rock» Johnson re-join the Fast & Furious franchise. As of December, The Rock says there is «no chance» that he will return and that he prefers to end his run with the series with «gratitude and grace.» Diesel and Johnson had a public falling out over alleged unprofessional behavior that The Rock said in an October interview had recently ended. In November, Diesel was still appealing to Johnson--on Instagram--to return to the franchise.
With that unpleasantness in the franchise's rear-view mirror, the addition of Momoa would shake things up quite a bit. Momoa wrapped shooting the Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, last year. The film is expected to release in theaters on December 16.
Fast & Furious 10, directed by Justin Lin, will begin filming in January 2022 according to star Vin Diesel himself, and it's even possible that Fast 10 and 11 will be filmed back-to-back. Fast & Furious 10 is expected to release in May 2023. The latest film, F9, made $726 million during the pandemic.
In addition to Diesel, most of the rest of the cast is expected back, including Diesel himself, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris «Ludacris» Bridges, and Sung Kang are all set to return, but John Cena hasn't confirmed his return yet.
