Bethesda’s Todd Howard has seemingly teased plans to reveal its Indiana Jones game in 2024.
Announced in January 2021, the title is in development at MachineGames, the Swedish studio behind the modern Wolfenstein games.
Bethesda game director Howard, who is serving as executive producer on the Indiana Jones game, briefly commented on the project at the end of an Esquire interview published to coincide with today’s Starfield release.
“I am a giant Indiana Jones fan,” he said. “It can be brought to video games in a unique way. The game is obviously: you’re exploring stuff. It’s about him. So if you’re playing the game, how do you feel that you are indeed playing versus just watching?”
According to the report, Howard wasn’t allowed to reveal more about the game, but as the interviewer left his office, he added: “We’ll talk next year.”
Howard, whose favourite film is Raiders of the Lost Ark, said of the game’s genre last year: “I would just say it’s a mash-up. It is a unique, it isn’t one thing intentionally, so it does a lot of different things”.
A GQ report published last month claimed Howard was midway through executive producing the game. “They’ve got the whole Nazi killing thing down, and they’re doing a really great job,” he said of MachineGames’ work on the title.
VGC revealed last year that Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness director Jens Andersson had joined MachineGames to lead design on the Indiana Jones title.
It was recently confirmed that it will be an Xbox and PC exclusive, and a day-one release on Game Pass, following Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda in 2021.
