It has long been assumed that the Barbarian Armor set found in and belonged to the Zonai tribe, but now it seems that this may not be the case. With the introduction of the Zonai King Rauru in alongside his sister Mineru, it is readily apparent that the Barbarian armor does not seem to match their culture. As a result, it seems has left yet another mystery unsolved in the world of Hyrule.

These armor sets can therefore be put to a variety of uses, from confidently facing off against powerful monsters to more niche uses, like more easily catching some of ’s iconic fairies. But the armor Link can find isn’t always simply about its gameplay benefits. In many cases, the descriptions of various armor pieces also provide snippets of intriguing lore, such as the Barbarian Armor set’s mention of “”.

Given the fact that Zonai ruins were a prominent part of Faron’s landscape in, it was easy to connect the Zonai to the Barbarian Armor and conclude that they were the tribe in question. However, following ’s release, it is now readily apparent that the Zonai are not nearly as aggressive as their supposed armor would imply. Moreover, the dress of Rauru and Mineru in does not match the Barbarian Armor’s aesthetic at all. For example, the skull which forms much of the Barbarian Helm evokes a savage image that is nowhere to be seen in the appearances of Rauru and Mineru.
