Since the game released, the Marvel’s Spider-Man community has consistently shown just how dedicated it is, as fans continue to share art and photos regularly while also discussing potential features for the sequel. Some Marvel’s Spider-Man fans have even searched through the game’s code, with one group of modders recently stumbling upon a scrapped gadget.
In the official release of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Insomniac Games provided players with eight different gadgets to use in combat. These included Peter’s basic Web Shooters, an Impact Web that pinned enemies to walls, a Spider-Drone that would assist in fights, and an Electric Web to stun enemies. Web Bombs and Trip Mines were also available, as was a Concussive Blast and the gravity-focused Suspension Matrix. However, there was seemingly a ninth gadget planned for the game that would have had a far different purpose.

The scrapped gadget is shown off by YouTuber ynSection, who credits the modders Spidey SansGoku, tiffsomniac, and JamesRack for discovering it. Working similarly to the sewer scene from the original Amazing Spider-Man movie, Peter is shown deploying a Web Line between two points. He can then zip onto this line and perch on top of it, with more lines able to be deployed by shooting at walls. While the design for the tool was clearly not finished, what Insomniac did complete is interesting to seen in action.
As for why this gadget did not feature in the original Marvel’s Spider-Man or its PS5 remaster, perhaps Insomniac left it out of the game for balancing purposes. After all, stealth would have been trivial with this gadget, as Peter could have performed perch takedowns on every
