US retailer GameStop is making laying off some of its staff, including its chief operating officer, Mike Recupero.
That's according to Axios' Stephen Totilo, who reports that this will impact people from across the retail business, as well as its Game Informer magazine. There's no indication as of yet how many staff are going to be affected by these cuts.
GameStop has said that it will be investing in store leaders and field employees moving forward, as well as saying that it is also going to be launching a blockchain group.
Recupero had only been chief financial officer for a year before being fired. He is going to be replaced by chief accounting officer Diana Jajeh.
News of the job cuts was confirmed by Kotaku's Ethan Gach, who got his hands on the email sent out to staff by GameStop.
"This means eliminating excess costs and operating with an intense owner's mentality," the company wrote. "Everyone in the organization must become even more hands-on and embrace a heightened level of accountability for results."
