Elden Ring’s endgame is packed with some of the most jaw-dropping surprises the game has in store. Intense boss fights, brilliant level design and atmosphere, and some of the most intriguing plot reveals are presented in the game’s final stretch. Unfortunately, some players may have a tough time making it to that point, understandably so, because Elden Ring is an intentionally difficult game. Those who fight to the finish will not regret it.

The game’s final level can only be accessed after defeating the Fire Giant boss in the Mountaintops of the Giants area. Once that is completed and the Giant’s Forge is activated, the player is teleported to a location called Crumbling Farum Azula, which is inaccessible by normal map traversal unless a DLC changes Elden Ring’s map substantially. This level is equal parts haunting and extraordinary. It’s a massive, broken coliseum suspended high in the air. It is surrounded by tornados full of dragons and has an enormous tornado at its core. Its level design is intricate and reminiscent of some levels from Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3.

Elden Ring is also a long game. The consensus is that a standard ‘main story only’ playthrough averages around fifty hours of play time. Players that want to see all the game has to offer can expect to spend hundreds of hours doing so. One devoted fan has played Elden Ring for 1,000 hours.
