Sara Goodman, showrunner of I Know What You Did Last Summer, explains what would have happened in season 2 if the show hadn't been canceled. Amazon Prime's horror series, based on the 1973 Lois Duncan novel and 1997 film of the same name, premiered back in October 2021. Development of the show was first announced in 2019, with Neal H. Moritz and James Wan attached as executive producers, and plans to move forward were confirmed a year later. Serving as a modern take on the familiar story, I Know What You Did Last Summer follows a young group of friends who find themselves stalked by a mysterious killer one year after they killed someone in a car accident and covered it up. Madison Iseman leads the series' cast, with Bill Heck, Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, Sebastian Amoruso, and Brooke Bloom all taking on main roles as well.
Following its debut, the reboot received mostly mixed reactions from fans and critics alike, with many pointing towards its deaths and incorporation of social media as bright spots. The use of Instagram and other platforms was something Goodman considered to be a distinguishing feature between the show and its original film counterpart, explaining that through those outlets, people think they know everyone when the reality is that what we see is not always the truth. Fans of the show last saw Margot revealed to be the killer and, along with Allison, framed Dylan for all of the deaths, while more about Wai Huna's cult was revealed, including that they saved a presumedly dead Riley. With the support of the 1997 classic's cast, including Ryan Phillippe, who praised the project, it looked like Amazon Prime could potentially revitalize the franchise.
