Warning! Spoilers ahead for Hulk #5
In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Hulk, Bruce Banner and the new Starship Hulk are facing darker versions of Abomination that go way beyond the one seen in the MCU. Venturing into a pocket dimension, Hulk has discovered an alternate reality where his gamma experiment was a success. However, the world actually became far worse, displaying a cruel brutality which includes these new Abominations.
In previous issues of Hulk from Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley, it was revealed that Bruce Banner found a means to split his psyche while using new technologies to turn his greener and stronger half into something he could control. Creating a ship's bridge in his mind where he sits as captain, Banner can now command this new form for the Hulk who's become a starship, manually increasing his rage and using it as fuel. Leaving the primary Earth-616 universe behind, the Starship Hulk found himself in a new dimension where Banner never became the Hulk. Instead, his gamma project was a success and was taken by the American government. As such, the United States became an oppressive empire under the command of President Ross, one that simply disposed of any mutated Hulk-like creations that emerged from their gamma missile fallout, dumping them in the same interdimensional void from which the Starship Hulk came from. Learning that they're referred to as «Abominations,» Banner takes massive offense in past issues.
