After Venom's long reign of being the perfect template for which Marvel Comics' creatives can combine with any other hero, the Hulkhas officially dethroned him as Marvel’s favorite ‘alternate version’ twist. It seemed as though everyone was getting the Venom treatment, from Venompool to Gwenom and even more generic alternate versions including Cyclops and Wolverine. Each time, Marvel reimagines that character as how they would look if they had merged with the Venom symbiote. Now, Marvel is doing the exact same thing but with the Hulk as its creative merging template instead.
In two brand new comics released at the same time by Marvel Comics, the Hulk has been combined with two different Marvel characters each with drastically different designs. In Devil’s Reign: Superior Four#2 by Zac Thompson and Davide Tinto, the alternate version of the Hulk has been merged with Doctor Octopus who is one of Otto’s variants within the multiverse. The other was shown in Hulk#4 by Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley. In this issue, the Hulk is pulled into an alternate dimension where Spider-Man’s powers were gamma based and therefore gave him the same transformative ability as the Hulk with a whole new terrifying outcome.

While these two most recent characters to have been merged with the Hulk are similar in that they have both been ‘Hulk-ized,’ their respective designs couldn’t be more different.
