Destiny 2 Lightfall, the major expansion following The Witch Queen and coming in early 2023, is the headliner for this event. We're expecting story details that will shape the events of Destiny 2's next two seasons, an early look at the next major campaign, potential confirmation of a seemingly leaked fifth subclass, and maybe some moonshot reveals like a new weapon type, a gameplay system on the level of weapon crafting, or perhaps a fresh alien race.
Lightfall will be the third expansion in Destiny 2's Light and Darkness saga. The finale, the aptly named Final Shape, will arrive in 2024, but Bungie says Destiny 2 will continue well beyond this first saga.
The August 23 showcase is airing alongside the start of Season 18 of Destiny 2, so in addition to early expansion breadcrumbs, we're due for a seasonal kickoff. The now-concluded Season of the Haunted leaned further into the movements of the Darkness, humanity's relationship with the Cabal and specifically Caiatl, and the role of the old raid boss Calus in all this cosmic horror, and we're expecting Season 18 to set even more major players in motion.
