One of the new features available in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is the Anomaly Quest, a different type of mission that lets players take on powerful Afflicted Monsters. There are a few steps to unlocking the new mission type, including fighting a unique and unexpectedly powerful monster and completing the main story. Once Anomaly Quests are accessible, players will need to raise their Master Rank to continue unlocking more.
With the new Master Rank difficulty, monsters are more aggressive and utilize different attack patterns than what players have encountered previously. Master Rank is unlocked after completing the first Sunbreak mission, and Anomaly Quests will be available as soon as the main story is completed. Anomaly Quests all feature Afflicted versions of monsters that have new abilities and are much more difficult to defeat than their normal versions.

During the main story, players will get a quest to travel to the Citadel in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, and they will find that every monster in the area has been killed. The quest ends with a fight against a red-coated Lunagaron, and this monster turns out to be one of the Afflicted. After completing the main story, Chichae will explain what the Afflicted Monsters are, and some Anomaly Quests will be unlocked. To access more Anomaoly Quests, players will need to raise their Master Rank by completing missions and leveling up.
