The original idea for Leia Organa's lightsaber in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker would have been better than what was used in the final film. A recently released and unused piece of concept art has surfaced online after artist Adam Brockbank uploaded the image to Instagram. Brockbank has done concept art for numerous films in the Star Wars universe, including Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The newly shared art shows a young Leia and Luke dueling with one another in a flashback scene, a version of which was used in the final release of The Rise of Skywalker.
The Rise of Skywalker marked Carrie Fisher's final performance as Leia in the Star Wars universe, after her death in 2016, and the movie confirmed that Luke (Mark Hamill) had trained Leia to wield the Force. Previous Star Wars films had only hinted at the possibility that she was Force-sensitive, most notably in The Last Jedi as she used the Force to survive while in space. Her training under Luke's tutelage then led to her training Rey (Daisy Ridley) in The Rise of Skywalker, with Rey using Leia's lightsaber to defeat Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) during the climax of the movie.

The most notable difference between the concept art is that where Leia had a blue-bladed lightsaber in the movie, Brockbank's image shows her using a purple lightsaber. Interestingly enough, few other purple lightsabers have appeared in Star Wars, the most well-known of which was carried by Mace Windu (Samuel L.
