Both Gospels and Grimoires are dropped by a specific type of Mitama enemy, but these foes can only be encountered randomly along your journey. Mitamas in come in many different colors that mark what type of loot they drop when defeated. These enemies look like teardrops with faces and are commonly found within points of interest on your map marked by your navigator.
A Gospel serves a different function compared to a Grimoire, as each can only level up a specific piece of your party. Gospels level up Nahobino, while Grimoires level up demons on your team recruited or fused throughout your adventures in. Both items raise Nahobiono or a demon's XP to meet the total number needed to advance a level, but they do not raise your experience any further.
It is best to use a Gospel or Grimoire right after you level up and turn one raised level into two. This is because you can get the maximum value from both items by using them as a way to skip a full level grind and make up the largest possible gap of XP needed to get stronger.
