Most people know that the iPhone has a built-in flashlight but Apple purposely placed the control that allows adjusting its intensity a little out of the way. While the iPhone's flashlight is a great way to find something in the dark, it can seem blindingly bright at full power. When navigating a movie theater or anywhere that's purposely dim, a smartphone flashlight can put out an annoying amount of light, ruining the ambiance.
Apple gave the iPhone so many helpful features that it can be difficult to find an advanced option. The reason some options require an extra step is to make the basic function easier. With just a tap on the shutter button in the camera app, a photo can be taken, which is super-easy and obvious. However, pressing and holding the shutter records a video. What's more, pressing, holding and then swiping to the right locks video recording until stopped. This overloading of a control is on purpose to keep advanced features accessible without requiring a complicated interface with a lot of buttons that are rarely used.

It's quite easy to adjust the brightness level of the iPhone's flashlight. The trick is similar to the camera app method mentioned above. The user can swipe down from the upper-right to open the Control Center, revealing various options. Tapping the flashlight icon switches it on but pressing and holding reveals a new option. Apple provides users with a large, five-step slider consisting of four intensity levels and off. The top setting represents the brightest flashlight possible and tapping or dragging the slider to a lower level makes the flashlight dimmer.
