Netflix's Murderville relies on improv comedy, and with it starring hilarious comedians firing on all cylinders, it hides its actors breaking character in some incredibly clever ways. Each episode puts Will Arnett and a new guest star in wild situations, whether that be infiltrating the mob, performing a surgery undercover, or going to a Mothers Against Magic Association meeting. While the actors do constantly break character, trying to hold back laughs and hide smiles, Murderville's cast gets a lot of help from their resourceful crew when it comes to hiding it.
Murderville follows Arnett's senior homicide detective Terry Seattle, who gets a new murder case to solve and a new partner to work with each episode. Every new partner is actually a celebrity guest star, consisting of comedians, actors, football players, and more. However, there is a twist: Murderville's cast of characters has no script. Instead, they must improvise their way through the story, picking up on clues that will help them at the end of the episode when they decide which of the three suspects is the murderer. While the guest star does not always get it right, each one elicits lots of laughs, sometimes even from the other actors.

As is the case with many other live comedy performances like Saturday Night Live, the cast of Murderville sometimes struggles to maintain a straight face due to the absurdity of the situations that they are put in.
