Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Wong and Xochitl Gomez explain how they kept track of all the different universes within the film. The highly anticipated MCU film follows the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) inadvertently create a rift in the multiverse as he attempted to cast a memory spell to protect Peter Parker (Tom Holland). The sorcerer must recruit the talents of Wong (Benedict Wong), Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) to keep the universe from falling apart.
The Sam Raimi-directed sequel will feature an expansive cast of new characters as well as variants of old ones across parallel realities. Previous promotional material has already premised several versions of the titular character as well as appearances by Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell) and Professor X (Patrick Stewart). Stewart is reprising his role from the original Fox X-Men franchise. Due to the multiversal nature of the film's plot, the cast of characters in Doctor Strange 2 promises to be quite extensive.
