His iconic approach to creating maximalist over-the-top non-stop action is often considered the epitome of «style over substance» filmmaking, which naturally tends to polarize critics and audiences, simultaneously making iconic movie moments and drawing negative reviews.

Fortunately for Bay, Ambulance breaks the trend of poor reviews, even though it doesn't seem to change the Bayhem formula. Compared to the rest of Bay's movies in Rotten Tomatoes, Ambulance stands out in a few key ways.
While Michal Bay has directed 15 movies in 17 years, Ambulance is only the second time he's earned a Fresh score — the last was The Rock in 1996 (before Rotten Tomatoes was even invented). With a score of 68 percent, both The Rock and Ambulance are tied for Bay's highest Rotten Tomatoes score ever, with The Rock's 6.7 out of 10 average rating edging out Ambulance's 5.8 out of 10 as the tie-breaker.
The Rock was only Bay's second movie, meaning since 1996 he made 12 movies in a row with «rotten» ratings.
