Helldivers 2 has ended up attracting a far larger playerbase than Sony or developer Arrowhead Game Studios were expecting (to the extent that its overcrowded servers are even causing several in-game issues), and its momentum hasn’t slowed down. Over the weekend, we reported that the co-op shooter had surpassed a concurrent user peak of 155,000 on Steam, and that number has only grown since then.
At the time of writing, as per SteamDB, Helldivers 2’s peak concurrent user count is close to 200,000- 196,089, to be precise, which it hit eight hours ago. Previously, the highest concurrent user count a Sony game had hit on Steam was God of War with 73,529 concurrent players. Whether Helldivers 2’s numbers will continue to grow remains to be seen, but the momentum has certainly been impressive, to say the least.
On top of becoming Sony’s biggest launch on Steam to date, Helldivers 2 has also enjoyed similar success on PS5. Recently, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt revealed that the game had exceeded 360,000 concurrent players across all platforms.
In our review of Helldivers 2, we awarded it a score of 8/10, saying, “Helldivers 2 is essentially the first game, except bigger, louder and more epic in scale. Despite issues with matchmaking and some desperately needed quality-of-life, it’s enjoyably engaging.” Read the full review through here.
Helldivers 2 is available on PS5 and PC. At last count, it had sold around one million units worldwide.
