Arrowhead Studios just unveiled the sequel to its 2015 top-down shooter, Helldivers, via a new trailer shown at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase. Titled Helldivers II, the sequel appears to have one major difference from the original game.
Helldivers II is a third-person shooter, with Arrowhead Studios evidently deciding to toss out its predecessor's top-down POV in favor of a more intimate camera angle. But the game still retains plenty of similarities to the original Helldivers, including its setting.
Set on the same Super Earth as the first game, Helldivers II will see players take part in chaotic, futuristic battles against the enemies of Super Earth, with online multiplayer available for a more social experience. An internet connection and PS Plus subscription are required for multiplayer.
«Prove to yourself that you have the strength and the courage to be free,» the trailer's narrator tells players as he suits up in combat gear.
The game's upgraded graphics are detailed and smooth, something fans of the original are likely to enjoy. Not much else is known about the game at this time, with one exception: The gameplay trailer confirms that Helldivers II will release for PC and PlayStation 5 sometime in 2023.
