Have An iPhone 4S? Apple Might Owe You Some Money
The iPhone 4S was an excellent smartphone for many reasons, and if you were among the millions of people that bought one from Apple, a new settlement may make you eligible to get some money from it. When it launched in October 2011, the iPhone 4S stood out as one of the best smartphones on the market. With an 8MP rear camera, 3.5-inch LCD display, and A5 chipset, it was one of the most capable handsets of its time.
Like other iPhones, the iPhone 4S was also hailed for its excellent software support. The 4S shipped with iOS 5 in 2011 and kept receiving updates all the way through iOS 9 arriving in 2015. Although five years of updates sound great on paper, the process wasn't flawless. Shortly after releasing the iOS 9 update, Apple allowed users to downgrade the iPhone 4S back to iOS 6 due to the crippling performance that iOS 9 caused. Not only that, but the performance issues were so bad that a class action lawsuit was formed in December 2015 to hold Apple accountable.

Fast forward over six years later, and that lawsuit has finally done some good… kind of. As spotted by MacRumors, Apple recently settled the lawsuit created by angry customers from New York and New Jersey. The crux of the lawsuit came down to Apple's claim that iOS 9 would make the iPhone 4S faster — but in reality — it made the phone slower. As the lawsuit explains, «Plaintiffs contend that Apple misrepresented that iOS 9 was compatible with the iPhone 4S and would improve or 'enhance performance' for its customers that downloaded the software update. Instead, Plaintiffs contend, iOS 9 significantly slowed down the performance of their iPhone 4S devices.»
