A long-running Halo support studio is apparently working on a new Halo Infinite multiplayer mode, which could be a battle royale.
Back in 2018, 343 Industries insisted that Halo Infinite would not feature a battle royale mode. That hasn’t stopped some fans from thinking it could happen anyway, with references to such a mode being datamined from the game last year.
A new rumour now claims that studio Certain Affinity is not only working on a new game mode for Halo Infinite, but that it could be a battle royale.
Windows Central says it has heard separate hints regarding Certain Affinity’s involvement, although it seems no one can agree if it is indeed for a battle royale mode or something completely different.
The rumour is certainly believable, considering Certain Affinity has assisted with multiplayer development on multiple Halo games, including Halo Infinite, despite not being a Microsoft first party studio.
Founded in 2006 and formed by ex-Bungie staff (the original developer behind the Halo series), it has also worked on the multiplayer for several Call Of Duty games and the 2016 Doom.
Certain Affinity has become something of a talking point recently, as it is rumoured to be working on a new Xbox exclusive that aims to ape Capcom’s popular Monster Hunter series.
Windows Central has corroborated this rumour, adding that it’s under the working title Project Suerte, has been in development since the summer of 2020, and could be revealed in 2023, followed by a feasible 2024 release.
Halo Infinite’s multiplayer has already seen a number of updates since it launched, from tweaks to battle pass progression to new modes like Slayer.
