The Master Chief Collection just received an update yesterday that fixed numerous bugs and added “several new features.” Those features include new Skulls for various Halo games, new customization options for Halo 4’s campaign, and all-new cross-platform co-op campaign play for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST.
Starting today, both Xbox and PC owners of The Master Chief Collection can take to Halo 3’s campaign to play together (or Halo 3: ODST). However, the feature is still fairly new, and although it’s been tested, 343 Industries is warning players that it still might be a little rough around the edges, depending on your network settings. Please send feedback via bug reports or the Halo Waypoint forums if you run into any trouble.

Halo 3: ODST has also received mod tools on Steam just like the older Halo games, and improvements to its Firefight game mode including the long-awaited Floodfight. That’s where you fight waves of Flood instead of Covenant soldiers. Other changes include a fog that changes the atmosphere of those classic maps, and any friendlies lost to the flood will come back and attack the surviving players. There are also Flood-themed hazards such as Dispersal Pods, Flood Stalkers, and Flood-controlled vehicles. Players can add Flood enemies to Firefight game variants in the Properties settings.
There are quite a few other new features added in the recent patch, including custom game browsing improvements and new medals to be found in Halo 3, and you can read all about ‘em in the patch notes here.
