With Certain Affinity more involved with Halo Infinite, previous rumours of a battle royale mode are looking a lot more likely.
Although Bungie is no longer running the Halo franchise, some of its members have continued to work on it as part of separate company Certain Affinity. Since its founding in 2006, the studio has contributed to development on the multiplayer modes for a number of entries, including The Master Chief Collection.
While it assisted with Halo Infinite’s development as well, announcing its partnership with 343 Industries in August 2020, Certain Affinity recently revealed that the two studios have ‘deepened’ their relationship, implying it will have more involvement going forward.
‘We’ve been part of the Halo franchise for more than 15 years and we’re honoured to say we are deepening our relationship with 343 and have been entrusted with further evolving Halo Infinite in some new and exciting ways,’ reads a Twitter statement.
It hasn’t gone into any further detail, but one takeaway from this is that Certain Affinity will be contributing new multiplayer modes to the game. In fact, there were rumours of the studio making a battle royale mode.
Back in January, it was reported that Certain Affinity was working on a new game mode for Halo Infinite. However, nobody could agree whether it was battle royale or not.
343 Industries did say in 2018 that no such mode would be added, but plans could have easily changed since then. Fans also believe they’ve found growing evidence of its existence, which builds upon Halo 5: Guardians’ Warzone mode.
