The Halloween franchise joined the trend of reboots and “requels” with a new trilogy that serves as a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s 1978 horror classic but ignores all sequels that came after it, retconning the saga one more time. The reboot trilogy is coming to an end with Halloween Ends, which has been teased as a very different movie from its predecessors.
The Halloween reboot trilogy began in 2018 with the movie of the same name, directed by David Gordon Green, and as it ignores all sequels, in this new timeline Michael Myers and Laurie Strode are not related, and he was captured hours after he tried to kill Laurie in 1978. Forty years later, Michael escaped and returned to Haddonfield to continue his killing spree, but Laurie was now ready to confront him. The new Halloween movies introduced Laurie’s daughter, Karen (Judy Greer), and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak), who joined the fight against Michael. Unfortunately, the second entry, Halloween Kills, repeated some old franchise mistakes and sidelined Laurie, killed Karen, and made Michael Myers supernatural again.
