For Grand Theft Auto fans, all their attention at the moment is likely on Rockstar’s muted acknowledgement that a new mainline entry, presumably Grand Theft Auto 6, is in active development.
The same blog post where this announcement was made also offhandedly mentioned a release date for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S remasters of Grand Theft Auto 5. We already knew they would be coming in March following a delay, but Rockstar has given an exact date of March 15.
‘Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S features new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options and ray-tracing, as well as offering the technical advancements of the latest console generation with faster loading times, immersive 3D audio, platform-specific features like advanced haptic feedback, and much more,’ reads the post.
Rockstar adds that anyone who owns the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will be able to transfer their progress in both the story mode and GTA Online to their respective upgraded counterparts. A standalone version of GTA Online will also release on the same day and be free for the first few months to PlayStation 5 owners.
Despite the game launching in just over a month’s time, Rockstar doesn’t have a new trailer to share. That’s especially disappointing given how badly the last trailer went down with fans, who accused it of not showing any major improvements over the last gen versions.
