In a new video, the viral hockey mascot Gritty gets into full Thanos cosplay. Gritty is a bizarre seven-foot-tall creature with bright orange fur and googly eyes that was introduced as the mascot to the NHL team the Philadelphia Flyers in 2018. He more or less instantly became an internet sensation off the back of his off-putting social media presence (including telling the Pittsburgh Penguins mascot to "sleep with one eye open tonight, bird" on Twitter after being made fun of) and a popular video where John Oliver discussed his intriguing weirdness on HBO's comedy news program Last Week Tonight.
Other than being colorful and large, Thanos couldn't be more different from Gritty. The Marvel comics character, who was introduced early on in the MCU though he didn't come to prominence until later on, was the primary villain of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. His ultimate goal was to purge the universe of half its population in order to bring balance. To do so, he collected all of the powerful Infinity Stones into a glove known as the Infinity Gauntlet. When he did so, he enacted his plan with a snap that erased half the universe in what was known as The Blip, an event that was eventually reversed but still has a deep impact on the surviving characters in the MCU.

Yesterday on Twitter, Gritty posted a video promoting NHL's official Marvel Super Hero Day. The video involves the mascot coming across a package that was meant to be delivered to Avengers HQ and finding the Infinity Gauntlet inside.
