Buzz Lightyear is soaring back to the big screen in his own adventure. Lightyear acts as both a spinoff and origin story for the Toy Story character, exploring the story of the in-universe fictional character that would go on to inspire one of the most beloved toys in the world.
In anticipation of the film's release, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with Sets Art Director Greg Peltz to discuss Lightyear, bringing his passion for machinery to the Toy Story spinoff, and his real-world inspirations.

Screen Rant: From what I've seen so far, Lightyear is quite the blast, and I can't wait to see the rest. You've worked with Pixar for quite a while now, but what was it about Lightyear that really drew you to want to be a part of the project?
Greg Peltz: I mean, in a nutshell, everything. I am a fan of, first and foremost, big machines and mechanics, spaceships, robots, trains, anything that moves or that's made out of metal. We don't make movies with a lot of that stuff typically at Pixar, right? We'll definitely have some of that stuff, like The Incredibles or WALL-E maybe, but this is kind of the first film we've done where it's very vehicle-centric.
It's all about the built world, and there's a lot of it. That's the stuff that I personally geek out over, as an artist and just a nerd. So, that was the thing that that was the big draw for me on the film. Even before I was on it, as an art director, I was like, «I want to be a part of that. I want to make spaceships and cool stuff.»
