Polyphony Digital has released a significant Gran Turismo 7 patch which rebalances the in-game economy following severe criticism from players.
Two weeks ago, Polyphony boss Kazunori Yamauchi apologised to fans for recent issues with the game, including a lengthy server outage and a lack of transparency over changes to its in-game currency system, and promised to alleviate them with a major update in early April, which has now arrived.
He said update 1.11 (see the full patch notes below) would increase rewards for events in the latter half of the World Circuit by approximately 100% on average.
The patch also adds rewards for clearing the Circuit Experience in Gold or Bronze results and increases the number of rewards in Lobbies and Daily Races.
Three new race events have been added to the World Circuit, while one-hour endurance races are now available in Missions under the ‘The Human Comedy’, which is playable once players reach Collector’s Level 23. Each endurance race will award up to 1.2 million credits.
The latest update also increases the upper limit of non-paid credits in player wallets from 20 million to 100 million and increases the quantity of Used and Legend cars on offer at any given time.
As a means of compensation for recent issues, last month Polyphony awarded Gran Turismo 7 owners one million in-game credits, which would cost around $15 if bought with microtransactions.
Yamauchi also said the studio was working on more long-term updates that will change the game further as it “develops as a live service”.
These include increasing the payout value of limited time rewards, the addition of Online Time Trials, and enabling players to sell cars for in-game credits.
