New products leak all the time. Companies update their websites early, retailers promote devices that haven't been announced yet, and manufacturers reveal accessories for unreleased products. But the Google Pixel 6a might be the first product to leak via a coloring book.
Droid Life reports that Google recently shipped a coloring book featuring a variety of Pixel, Nest, and Chromecast hardware to members of its Pixel Superfans group. The coloring book includes a table of contents that mentions a wide variety of hardware—including the Pixel 6a.
There's just one problem: Google hasn't announced the Pixel 6a. The company released the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in October 2021, which means its mainstream and high-end smartphones are in their sixth generation, but Google's most recent budget smartphone remains the Pixel 5a.
Droid Life notes that the coloring book doesn't actually feature the Pixel 6a on the pages indicated in the table of contents. This leads the outlet to speculate that Google either shipped the coloring book earlier than intended or was forced to delay the Pixel 6a's announcement.
So long as this coloring book is to be believed—which is a totally normal caveat to include in coverage of a leak concerning an unannounced smartphone—Google is at least working on the Pixel 6a. The company didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
