Warning: spoilers ahead for Dragon Ball Super chapter 85!
The new way Goku can leverage his Ultra Instinct form subtly changes its purpose in Dragon Ball canon, while ironically restoring the way in which Saiyans normally achieves new transformations.
Although Ultra Instinct is referred to as the ultimate technique, there are many drawbacks to unlocking its power for mortals, especially Saiyans. Warriors who are particularly egotistical like Vegeta have trouble grasping the concept that Ultra Instinct requires the user to allow their body to act on its own. Additionally, users must rid themselves of all strong emotions like hatred and anger to achieve Ultra Instinct, which almost seems counter-intuitive for Saiyans, who rely on such feelings to transform into and bolster their Super Saiyan forms.

But now Goku has seemingly solved both dilemmas after unleashing his newest version of Ultra Instinct during his fight against the villain Gas in chapter 85. As Goku reveals to his astonished opponent, "For that Ultra Instinct to work, I need my heart to be calm and tranquil. But in this form, I can put my emotions to work for me." He then proceeds to battle Gas with more passion than he has in a while, even unleashing a Mouth Energy Wave in a rather angry manner that looks anything but tranquil or calm.
Although Goku can now experience strong emotions like hatred and anger, he can't control them. That's because this newest version of Ultra Instinct still conforms to the same all-encompassing rule whereby Goku must relinquish control of various functions.
