While Shonen Jump and Doctor Who might not seem to have much in common, they just got a connection through the Tardis. Doctor Who's Tardis has traveled to countless places throughout time and space, ferrying timelords and other travelers through cosmic history. Now, it seems that the Tardis has acquired a new ability: the power to leave the Doctor Who universe and travel into different realities. At least, that's what an easter egg in Shonen Jump's new manga, Aliens Area, wants fans to think.
Aliens Area written and illustrated by Fusai Naba tells the story of Tatsumi Tatsunami and Hajime Sharaku as they work to uncover the secrets behind mysterious implants given to them by aliens. They work for Foreign Affairs 5, a hidden branch of the Japanese government that deals solely with extraterrestrial matters. In a nutshell, Aliens Area is Shonen Jump's Men in Black. A neat thing about the series is that it loves to pull inspiration from other popular manga and sci-fi series, and then presents that inspiration as something that fans can recognize while also making it fresh and original.

Doctor Who's Tardis is the latest pull in Aliens Area's easter egg game. In the series' ninth and most recent chapter, Tatsumi and his teammate, Ginji, are sent to issue a parking ticket to an alien who illegally parked its spacecraft (because not even aliens are above the strict laws of parking enforcement). Their search takes them to a playground, where Ginji says to look out for anything that could be the «mimicry-type».
