With Better Call Saul wrapping up its sixth and final season, many might be wondering what Vince Gilligan--the creator of the Breaking Bad universe--might be making next. A report from Deadline reveals that Gilligan is developing a «wholly original idea» likened to The Twilight Zone.
The report said Gilligan will begin pitching the series in the coming weeks, and that as many as nine networks/platforms are lined up to take a look.
Whatever the show is, it'll hail from Sony Pictures TV, which is paying Gilligan $10 million or more to stay with the company after the success of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
As for what the new show is, it won't be set in the Breaking Bad universe, the report said. Instead, it will be more akin to the type of work Gilligan did on The X-Files years ago, the report said. The new show will reportedly focus on «the human condition.»
Deadline went on to characterize the unannounced Gilligan show as a «blended, grounded drama» similar to The Twilight Zone. It will reportedly be set on Earth while «putting a tweak on it» in an «unexpected, surprising way.» The report said the show will also have Gilligan's trademark drama and humor, and could be a multi-season show.
As for Better Call Saul, its series finale airs Monday, August 15. In other news, Gilligan recently revealed that he had an idea for a Breaking Bad video game that might have been inspired by Grand Theft Auto, but it did not go anywhere.
