The animation director of God Of War Ragnarök has insisted that the game will be out this year, even if there’s still no release date.
Earlier this week, God Of War Ragnarök director Cory Barlog released a video to fans asking them to be patient about the lack of news on the game, while hinting that ‘something cool is coming’.
He never said anything about when the game would be released though, to the point where he seemed to be purposefully avoiding the issue. In fact, he didn’t really say anything at all, which rather than reassuring people only got them more worried.
Other developers at Santa Monica Studio seem to have realised the mistake though and so animation director Bruno Velazquez answered a tweet from a concerned fan by assuring them that ‘Ragnarök is coming this year’.
There was no more information than that, with no hint of when exactly the game might be released, but at this point it’s looking very much like it will be Sony’s big Christmas game.
Barlog did address the lack of updates – with the game only ever having been shown in public once – as being a result of the team having their heads down, trying to get it finished.
With no E3 this year, and Sony not attending the last few anyway, there’s no way to guess when the game might be seen again.
A popular Reddit rumour at the moment suggests that Ragnarök will be the last Sony game to be released on both PlayStation 4 and 5.
There’s no evidence of this but the only other Sony exclusives currently announced are Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine games, both of which appear to be PlayStation 5 exclusives.
