The Norse-based God Of War saga is a coming-of-age story for Kratos’ growing son Atreus, but a new PC mod pits the warrior-in-training against one of the most embarrassing parts of the teenage years: acne. Sony Santa Monica rebooted its signature God Of War franchise to great reception in 2018 with the tale of an older Kratos struggling to raise his son and come to terms with the demons of his past as he roams across the Nine Realms of Norse mythology. God Of War was recently ported to PC last month, allowing gamers who don’t own a PlayStation console the opportunity to experience one of the most critically-acclaimed action games of the previous console era. Reviews for the PC port of God Of War (2018) have been just as positive as they were for the initial PS4 version, with PC gamers enjoying enhanced graphical options that make Kratos's quest to fulfill his late wife Faye's dying request all the more real.
While the God Of War PC port doesn’t include official mod support, that hasn’t stopped players with the technical know-how from altering Kratos and Atreus’s first Nordic adventure in several interesting ways — with the developers of Sony Santa Monica even giving their full blessing. Most of these mods are focused on Kratos himself, with some replacing his aged character model with his younger and more volatile self from the original God Of War trilogy and switching out his usually somber dialogue with a barrage of dad jokes that will leave Atreus holding his face in embarrassment.
