A currently in-development God Of War PC mod will finally allow players to take control of Atreus. Players were first introduced to Kratos’ troubled teenage son in Sony Santa Monica’s 2018 God Of War reboot, which shifted the setting of the long-running PlayStation-exclusive action series from ancient Greece to the Nine Realms of Norse mythology and featured a much more introspective Kratos who is haunted by the violence of his past as he tries to live out a quiet existence in Midgard.
A significant part of this drama comes from Kratos’ strained relationship with his son Atreus, who discovers much about his father’s past and his own divine nature during the journey to scatter his late mother’s ashes across the highest peak of Jotunheim in God Of War. As Kratos tries to mentor his son in the ways of survival and teach him to avoid repeating the Ghost Of Sparta’s many murderous mistakes, Atreus assists his father in battle with his trusty bow and arrow, and it is suggested that he has inherited his father’s Spartan strength and neigh-unstoppable range at multiple times throughout God Of War's story. This has left many players to wonder what it would be like to control the young warrior-in-training from the very beginning.
