Despite Sony's and Santa Monica Studio's ongoing silence, journalist Jason Schreier maintains the God of War Ragnarök release date will not slip into 2023. Announced during a digital PS5 event in September 2020, God of War Ragnarok returned to the spotlight with a gameplay trailer at yet another PS5 games showcase in September 2021. The three-minute video confirmed the sequel's name, teased Thor's role, and hinted at what Kratos and Atreus will face throughout their next big adventure.

Amid the excitement about the new title, the Director of the 2018 entry, Cory Barlog, revealed that God of War Ragnarok will mark the second and last installment in the Norse saga. The team came to such a conclusion out of concern that it would take over a decade to complete a trilogy, a lengthy wait players should not have to endure, Barlog argued. As such, fans remain eager to get their hands on Kratos' and Atreus' new escapade; however, the title's absence from the spotlight in recent months has many convinced that another God of War delay could be imminent.

Late last week, Reddit user MTH1138 opened up a discussion about whether fellow God of War fans believed Sony would delay the sequel out of the previously hinted 2022 launch window. Jason Schreier responded to the thread with a simple answer of his own — "nope." Given the journalist's track record as an insider, reason suggests the title does indeed remain on track for this year.
