Genshin Impact updates are usually made of two separate banner cycles that feature different characters. Each of the cycles includes one or two five-star characters and three four-star characters.
A new post on the popular Genshin Impact subreddit shows the most popular banners in the game so far. Reddit user ShiftYourCarcass has listed the five most successful banners in the game when it comes to revenue. It should be noted that the list represents the numbers for the Japanese server on iOS only.

Multiple replies in the comment section claim that they were surprised that the most popular banner was the one that featured Yelan and Xiao. The banner was placed in the first part of Genshin Impact Version 2.7, and it included three decent four-star characters: Noelle, Yanfei, and Barbara. Even though both Xiao and Yelan are very popular characters, the main reason behind the banner's success is probably the fact that update 2.7 was delayed for three weeks and players had more time to acquire precious Primogems.
The second most popular banner also featured two characters, Ayato and Venti, and it was available in the first part of Genshin Impact update 2.6. Kamisato Ayato was a new character at the time, and there was a lot of hype around his official release since he was one of the main topics in the community for a very long time. His banner colleague Venti is still considered one of the best supports in Genshin Impact despite being one of the oldest characters on the playable roster.
