Streets of New Capenna is an upcoming Magic: The Gathering set that will be entering new territory for the series, as the focus of the set will be five warring crime families in an art-deco city that was built by angels. Each of the five families is represented in the game with its own mechanics, with players able to use their unique brand of crime to beat their opponent.
The five families in Streets of New Capenna are the Brokers, the Obscura, the Maestros, the Riveteers, and the Cabaretti. The Brokers are legal wizards (quite literally), who use the Shield Counter mechanic to prevent their creatures from being destroyed; the Obscura use their powers of divination to learn secrets and blackmail their foes, who use the Connive mechanic to draw and discard for +1/+1 counters; the Maestros are contract killers and collectors of fine art, who use the Casualty card to sacrifice creatures for power; the Riveteers use pure muscle to force people to do their bidding, who use the Blitz mechanic to quickly get creatures on the field for a lower cost; and the Cabaretti are revelers who manipulate others with the finer things in life, who use the Alliance mechanic to strengthen their creatures on the field.
