The Starship Enterprise has a new but familiar medical team in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, as Dr. M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) and Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) are younger versions of characters who appeared inStar Trek: The Original Series.
In Strange New Worlds, Dr. M'Benga comes aboard as the Chief Medical Officer of the Enterprise while Chapel is a new nurse with a unique specialty stationed aboard the flagship of Starfleet.

Screen Rant interviewed Olusanmokun and Bush about taking on their characters, who were played by Booker Bradshaw and Majel Barrett in TOS, who their favorite Star Trek doctor is, and who the worst patients are on the Enterprise.
Screen Rant: Hello, Doctors. You're both playing new and younger versions of classic Star Trek characters. Did you look at how Booker Bradshaw and Majel Barrett played your roles before when you prepared?
Babs Olusanmokun: I absolutely did. Of course, it was just two episodes, so it was just a bit of homework. But then, of course, I went forth and tried to bring something new to the character and for the character. It's still a work in progress.
Jess Bush: Likewise. I watched Majel's performance and researched how she got the job. Even how she died her hair [blonde] and snuck back in [to Star Trek], I kind of loved that. I love that energy for Chapel. She didn't get a lot of screen time in The Original Series, but there's still a very distinct essence to her. I just kind of took that and used it as a launch point, as a seed that I can germinate.
