UK games firm Frontier Developments has announced that it has cut its revenue target by as much as 25 per cent following the newly-released Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin failing to meet expectations.
In an update to investors, the company said that the title had launched to positive reviews from both critics and players, but it has not hit the sales targets that it had set out. Frontier had previously hooped to make £108 million ($137 million) in revenue for the 2024 financial year, but now reckons that this figure will be between £80 million ($101 million) and £95 million ($120 million).
This is the second time in two years that Frontier has had to reduce its revenue outlook; last year this was due to F1 Manager 2022 not hitting the mark.
In an effort to reassure investors, the company says that its management titles – Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, Jurassic World Evolution and Jurassic World Evolution 2 – have all made more than $100 million in gross revenue. All four have also apparently been profitable within a month of launch and returned their investment within 12 months.
Frontier recently announced that it would be laying off some staff. The firm hasn't yet said how many, but says it needs to cut operating costs by 20 per cent.
