Developer Luminous Productions and publisher Square Enix have announced that Forspoken has seen a hefty delay from its planned May launch — though the game will still be releasing in 2022. Forspoken is an upcoming action RPG that involves a woman from the real world being sent to the magical land of Athia, where she is the only one who can overcome a magical blight.
Forspoken stars Frey, a New Yorker who is transported to Athia during a time when there is only a single human city remaining. Nearly all life in the world has been altered by the Break, which is a magical mist that transforms people into monsters. The native sorceresses of Athia, the Tanta, have been transformed by the Break, leaving the realm without a defender. Athia's last hope lies in Frey, as she is immune to the effects of the Break and is free to leave the last city and explore. With the aid of a set of magical fingernails and a sentient bracelet, Frey must learn the arcane secrets of Athia and use them against the creatures created by the Break. Forspoken was scheduled for release on May 24.

A post written by the development team on the official Forspoken Twitter account has announced that the game has officially been delayed to October 11, 2022, pushing it by five months. According to the developer, the reason for the delay is that the game requires more polish before it's ready to hit store shelves. This means Forspoken will be moving closer to a 2022 holiday season release, which is still surprisingly barren as of the time of writing, as the later months of the year only have Starfield and possibly the new mainline Pokémon games.
