Right now, many in the game industry are still reeling from the delay ofStarfield. This leaves a huge hole in November, something practically unheard of in the industry. Now, it stands to reason that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, as well asCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, are likely eyeballing a November release, but nothing else has been set up as THE game of the season like Starfield.
This is not to say that there are great games scheduled for the end of the year, just that there are a lot of big games that could fill this spot that fans want to know about. Final Fantasy 16, God of War: Ragnarok, Avatar: The Frontiers of Pandora, and Hogwarts Legacy all come to mind as potential games of the fall. While Final Fantasy 16 could prove to be a 2023 title, there is some reason to believe that fans could see it next month—hopefully including Final Fantasy 16’s release date as either this year or early next year.
Final Fantasy Devs Were Once Working on a Bloodborne-Style New IP
The next entry in the long-running and beloved JRPG franchise has been quiet since its reveal. There is some art, some lore, and one trailer out there about the game, but that’s it. Producer Yoshi-P recently commented, however, that not only is the game close to the finish line, but the next Final Fantasy 16 trailer is ready to go. He said he thinks fans can expect to see it “soon,” which should also line up with Square Enix’s general promise of more info this spring.
Yet, this poses two questions: when is soon? Why is Square Enix holding back the Final Fantasy 16 trailer? While it’s just a rumor at this point and should thus be taken with a grain of salt, the fact that many believe a State of Play is happening in the first week of June bodes well for this.
